Congressman Cal Dooley Visits Cyber High

Congressman Cal Dooley (D-20th-CA) met with the Cyber High Staff. During his visit, on September 1, 1998, the congressman had a chance to interact with members of the Cyber High team. Those also in attendance were Dr. Peter G. Mehas (Fresno County Superintendent of Schools), Don Collins (Deputy Superintendent - Instructional Services), and Sally Tannenbaum (Fresno County Board Member - District 2). News coverage was provided by KSEE24 (the local NBC affiliate).

In the time that Congressman Dooley spent with the Cyber High staff, he was updated on the project's status, goals, and shown curriculum in a student presentation given by two Roosevelt High School students: Angel Gomez and Naysi Perez under the guidance of Irene Buchanan, Migrant Resource Teacher for Fresno County.

As a result of the congressman's visit, Cyber High was presented to Vice President Al Gore in a town hall meeting at Roosevelt High School on September 29, 1998. The Cyber High program is being recognized nationally as an alternative for high school students who are behind academically to gain an education and for credit accrual towards graduation. The Cyber High curriculum is aligned with the new California State Standards and is designed to prepare students to compete for jobs in the information age. This accelerated concept of learning includes the resources of the World Wide Web. It prepares students to understand the concept of the global market-place.
