Types of English Learners

English Learners are students who enter a district having learned a language other than English as first language. At the secondary level the majority of these students enter a district with adequate educational background. however some have had very limited formal schooling and may in fact be illiterate in their first language. All of these students also have had varying opportunities to learn English. Some speak little or no English, while others only need to develop their English reading and writing skills.
