Tips for Success

   

I. Before a student begins a course, review the following as a group

  1. Purpose - Why the course is important
  2. Instructional Objectives - what the student will learn
  3. Student Directions - Describe what the student is suppose to do to complete the unit

II. Set clear goals for completion

  1. One unit (book per week)
  2. Self-check activities (Coop Learning)
  3. Contact person meets with student on a regular basis and reviews work.
  4. Contact Person checks workbook before test is taken. July 19, 2007

III. Review test before mailing

  1. Number 2 pencil used
  2. All items answered
  3. Matching - do answers appear reasonable
  4. Student name, course and grade information written in

IV. Share grade report form with student

  1. If first grade is D or F, monitor next unit more carefully
  2. Encourage positive self-talk
  3. Praise passing grades lavishly
