Unit 1 – Careers in the 21st Century

California State Career Technical Education Curriculum Standards
Written and Oral English Language Conventions 1.1: Use clear research questions and suitable research methods to elicit and present evidence from primary and secondary sources.

Writing Strategies 2.2: Write responses to literature demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the significant ideas in works or passages and support important ideas and viewpoints through accurate and detailed references to the text and other works.

Reading Comprehension 2.5:  Extend ideas presented in primary or secondary sources through original analysis, evaluation, and elaboration.

Career Planning and Management 3.1:  Know the personal qualifications, interests, aptitudes, information, and skills necessary to succeed in careers.

Career Planning and Management 3.3:  Develop a career plan that is designed to reflect career interests, pathways, and postsecondary options.

Technology 4.1: Understand past, present, and future technological advances as they relate to a chosen pathway.

Unit Objectives
Upon completion of this Unit, students will:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of career myths, questions to ask when planning a career, and job-related vocabulary.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Career Planning Process.
  • Understand and write a career action plan.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of transferable skills.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Writing Process.
  • Understand the basic job requirements of a computer forensic scientist.
