Cyberhigh Script

The virtual world is becoming a reality for high school students. Cyber high brings the power of the internet into the classroom ­ making it possible for more high school students to earn a degree.

If the computer age is changing the way we lead our everyday lives, then it should come as no surprise that this  new online program is changing the way some students earn credits toward graduation.
  
Angelica Granados is a student here at Roosevelt High school in Fresno, California and she’s enjoying her high school experience.  Involved in color guard and performance dance, she’s got a full schedule even before you consider her seven classes. With so many activities, sometimes her school work suffered. As a senior, Angelica was faced with the possibility of not graduating with her class, then she learned about cyberhigh.
           
Math was a tough subject for angelica , who found herself falling behind the rest of the class. Mr. Rudy Torres has been the cyber high teacher at roosevelt for more than two years. Miles Nishkian is also a senior at roosevelt who was surprised to discover he was one credit short in a class. Miles opted for cyber high rather than repeat the entire year, then decided to accelerate his program by taking american government too.

Cyber high was funded through the united states department of education, technology innovation challenge grant division.  It’ began as a response to the needs of migrant students. Here in the Cyber High offices in Fresno, California, is where it all happened. Cyber high maintains a full time staff dedicated to bringing curriculum to life. When students learn about the 1960’s, they get to witness the events. In learning about Alexander Graham Bell, students get a glimpse of what his life was like. What makes Cyber High so unique is its presentation style.

The University of California has approved a to g college prep courses for the Cyber High program. And since Cyber High is available to schools throughout the country, the possibilities are limitless. Cyber high expands the level of resources and knowledge to become the school of endless knowledge, stimulating the student’s intellectual curiosity with a genuine desire to learn.  If a student wants to visit the library of congress or learn more about the space industry, the information is readily available at the touch of a button.

Cyber high staff is gearing up to expand the program. Developers work full time creating new courses. Cyber high is accredited through the Fresno Unified School District, Roosevelt High School. One major benefit for schools is the centralized database, with all test scores available on the web site at the virtual touch of a button. Another  benefit is the sheer speed of the program. Students appreciate the immediate feedback they receive, which allows them to continually make development team since the beginning. As for Angelica, this spring, she’ll be the first in her family to graduate. And now she has her sites set on the future.

Cyber high is a new educational delivery system, bridging the gap for students born into the digital age.
